Carl Arredondo

The students took their time, stayed focused, and
did their very best on the LEAP test. As a special
treat for their hard work, Chief Meteorologist Carl Arredondo from Channel 4 news paid them a visit.

Mr. Arredondo was fascinated by weather as a boy. A television meteorologist visited his high school during career day and really sparked his interest in this profession.

His first job was at a private weather company in Houston that provided offshore clients weather data.  Following this job, Mr. Arredondo worked as a meteorologist at numerous television stations in Texas. In 1988, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and became a meteorologist for The Weather Channel. Finally in 1991, he accepted his current position at WWL-TV here in New Orleans.

In addition to sharing his experiences and his love for weather, Mr. Arredondo spoke to the students about what forecasting entails. He showed us different websites containing weather data and explained how he uses this data to create his forecasts. He also discussed how he relays to his viewers the forecasts. The green screen, using monitors to see his graphics, and adjusting his forecast were a few topics discussed.

The students were amused as Mr. Arredondo explained the one part of his job that he does not like: wearing make-up. Both students and Mr. Arredondo enjoyed sharing their thoughts about why he has to wear make-up.

We enjoyed his talk and thank him for taking time out of his day to share with us.

WAIT!!! How can I forget that he mentioned us in his evening broadcast? Scroll down to the bottom of the page to watch if you missed it.
